This study addresses the process of selecting vocabulary necessary for developing science teaching materials to be used at the “Ansan E-um Korean Language Center” within Ansan City, Gyeonggi Province, as part of the regional hub Korean language preparatory courses that have been fully operational since 2024. Three types of science textbooks for the first semester of 4th grade, newly applied starting in 2025, were constructed as a raw corpus. AntConc 4.3.1 was then used to extract vocabulary frequency and keywords. Simultaneously, core vocabulary for two lessons per unit was selected based on evaluations by six field experts, including teachers responsible for Korean language classes within the Ansan district, to develop teaching materials. This study introduces a newly implemented regional Korean preparatory program designed to support systematic Korean language learning for KSL learners. Its significance lies in the complementary use of both quantitative analysis (like corpus-based frequency and keywords) and qualitative analysis (like expert evaluation) to select core vocabulary for KSL learners’ subject-specific studies.
