This study aims to examine the experiences and perceptions of generative artificial intelligence among students learning Korean at a French university. A survey was conducted with 115 students at Inalco in France, with the goal of providing insights for future teaching and learning strategies. The survey results show that about half of the respondents used generative AI in their Korean learning, with ChatGPT being the most preferred tool. Respondents tended to use generative AI as a supplementary aid rather than relying on it, and they maintained a neutral stance regarding its usefulness, reliability, and contribution to Korean language learning. For the effective integration of generative AI into future teaching and learning design, it is necessary to strengthen learners’ competence in using AI maintaining the essential meaning of “learning.” The study also suggests the need for further expansion of research in this field.
