This article analyses the historiography of studies on British maritime history in Japan after the Second World War, a field which had been relatively neglected in studies of British history in Japan until recently, despite its importance. It traces the chronological development of the British maritime history in Japan between the 1950s and the 2010s, dividing the period into three phases. Using three factors (geographical distribution, academic affiliation, and maritime experience) as tools for analysis, this study examines key researchers in each period, identifies the characteristics and historiographical trends of the field, and proposes prospects for future research.
