중국 항일전쟁기 전쟁가요의 애국정신 고찰 : <황하대합창>을 중심으로

A Study on the Patriotic Spirit in Chinese Wartime Songs during the Anti-Japanese War : Focusing on <The Yellow River Cantata>

본 연구는 중국 항일전쟁기(1931~1945)에 창작·보급된 전쟁가요에 나타난 애국정신을 고찰하고, 그 대표적 사례인 〈황하대합창〉을 중심으로 그 구현 양상을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법으로는 문헌분석을 통해 항일전쟁 시기 주요 전쟁가요의 가사와 사회적 맥락을 검토하고, 이를 토대로 애국정신의 표현 요소를 범주화하였다. 또한 〈황하대합창〉을 사례로 삼아 항일가요의 주제 의식이 어떻게 음악적·상징적으로 구체화되었는지를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 전쟁가요에는 조국애와 민족정신의 고양, 국민적 단결, 침략자에 대한 항쟁의지가 공통적으로 내재되어 있었다. 둘째, 〈황하대합창〉은 황하라는 민족 상징을 통해 이러한 애국정신을 집약적으로 형상화하였으며, 서구 칸타타 형식과 중국 민요적 어법을 결합하여 예술성과 대중성을 동시에 확보하였다. 셋째, 이 작품은 전시기의 선전음악을 넘어 해방 이후에도 중국 혁명음악의 정체성과 애국주의 담론 형성에 지속적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 본 연구의 의의는 전쟁가요의 애국정신을 단순한 감정적 서사로 보지 않고, 집단 정서 형성과 사회적 실천의 매개로 해석했다는 점에 있다. 향후 연구에서는 한국의 독립운동가요나 유럽 반파시즘 음악과의 비교를 통해, 음악과 애국정신의 보편적 상호작용을 규명하는 후속 연구가 필요하다.

This study aims to explore the patriotic spirit embodied in wartime songs during the Chinese Anti-Japanese War (1931–1945), focusing on The Yellow River Cantata (Huanghe Dahechang) as a representative example. Using textual and contextual analysis, the study examined the lyrics and socio-historical context of major wartime songs and categorized the main thematic elements reflecting patriotism. The Yellow River Cantata was further analyzed to reveal how its musical structure and symbolic motifs embodied the national spirit of resistance. The findings are as follows: First, Chinese wartime songs commonly expressed patriotism through love for the nation, national solidarity, and determination to resist invasion. Second, The Yellow River Cantata symbolically condensed these themes through the image of the Yellow River, blending Western cantata form with Chinese folk melodic idioms to balance artistry and mass appeal. Third, the work transcended wartime propaganda, shaping the development of Chinese revolutionary music and the discourse of modern patriotism in subsequent decades. This study contributes by interpreting patriotic spirit not merely as an emotional motif but as a mechanism for collective sentiment and social practice. Future research may conduct comparative analyses with Korean independence songs or European anti-fascist music to explore universal interactions between music and patriotism.
