New Human Networks in a Hyperconnected Society: Globality and Locality

사이버 공간에서 연결된 인적 네트워크는 기존 물리적 공간의 인적 네트워크와는 다른 양상으로 발전하고 있으며, 이를 통해 글로벌과 로컬의 상호 영향이 폭증하고 있다. 이는 필연적으로 ‘글로컬리티’라는 혼종적 문화 정체성 형성을 가속화하고, 정체성 형성의 중심 기제인 언어에도 큰 변화를 일으킬 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구는 이를 살펴보기 위해서 이론적 측면에서 초연결사회에서의 인적 네트워크와 그 확장 구조를 분석했고, 이를 현실 언어에 적용하여 문화적으로 서로 다른 두 지역의 언어인 ‘루마니아어’와 ‘한국어’에서의 글로컬 현상을 분석했다. 그 결과 초연결된 인적 네트워크에서 글로벌 언어로서 영어 영향이 지대하고, 로컬 언어의 주요 특성이 혼성적으로 나타나는 글로컬 문화의 전형적인 특징을 볼 수 있었다. 루마니아어는 한국어에 비해서 영어 사용에 있어서 좀 더 개방적이고, 더 직접적인 영향을 받는 것으로 분석되었다. 신조어 생성을 볼 때, 두 언어 모두 영어의 영향이 현지어와 섞인 혼성어 형태로 나타났다. 한국어는 영어와의 구조적 차이에도 불구하고 모아쓰기의 장점을 적극적으로 사용함으로써, 자연스럽게 영어를 한국어와 혼성적으로 사용하고 있다.

This study focuses on how human networks connected in cyberspace are developing differently from traditional human networks in physical space, resulting in a rapid increase in the mutual influence between the global and the local. This phenomenon accelerates the formation of a hybrid cultural identity known as “glocality,” a concept familiar in globalization studies, and it notably affects language. This representative element demonstrates this process. To examine this in real-world languages, this study comparatively analyzed the glocal phenomenon in two culturally distinct languages: Romanian and Korean. As a theoretical foundation for this research, the structure of human networks and their horizontal expansion in a hyperconnected society were analyzed. The impact of the glocal phenomenon on language was analyzed mainly through the formation of neologisms and code-switching. The results showed that both languages are significantly influenced by English, a global language, and exhibit typical characteristics of glocal culture, where major features of the local language appear in a hybrid form. Compared to Korean, Romanian—whose language structure and discourse patterns are somewhat more similar to those of English—shows greater openness to and more direct influence from English use. Regarding neologism formation, both languages displayed hybrid forms in which English is mixed with the local language. Despite structural differences from English, Korean actively utilizes the advantages of its syllabic block writing system, naturally blending English with Korean in hybrid usage.
