東仁の｢笞刑｣｢いも(甘藷)｣と藤村の『破戒』『春』の対照比較 - 初期の自然主義の路程をめぐって

Comparative Translation of Kim Dong-in’s “Corporal Punishment” (태형) and “Potato” (감자) with Shimazaki Tōson’s “The Broken Commandment” (破戒) and “Spring” (春) : Over the Course of Early Naturalism

This study explores the development of naturalism in modern Korean and Japanese literature through a comparative analysis of Kim Dong-in’s “The Corporal Punishment” and “Potato”, and Shimazaki Tōson’s “The Broken Commandment” and “Spring”. Kim Dong-in, a pioneer of Korean short fiction, introduced naturalist elements such as moral neutrality and objective observation into Korean literary discourse. Shimazaki Tōson’s “The Broken Commandment” played a pivotal role in establishing Japanese naturalist literature, portraying the psychological conflict of a discriminated protagonist with stark realism. However, his later works shifted toward autobiographical confession, exposing personal realities and sparking public controversy. “Spring”, in particular, raised questions about the boundaries and responsibilities of autobiographical fiction, highlighting the tension between literary truth and social consequence. By examining these works, this paper sheds light on how naturalism evolved in East Asian literature, not only as a stylistic approach but also as a lens for exploring human nature and societal structures.

本稿では、韓国の近代短編小説の中で金東仁の｢笞刑｣と｢いも(甘藷)｣での自然主義の流れ、日本の自然主義文学において、島崎藤村の『破戒』と『春』での自然主義の流れを、作品を中心に考察した。韓国の近代短編小説の先駆者である金東仁は、自然主義文学の流れを韓国文壇に導入した重要な作家である。｢笞刑｣では、自然主義の特徴である事実の冷静な観察と道徳的中立性が顕れている。｢いも(甘藷)｣は、人間の本能、欲望、そして破滅への過程を冷静に描く点で、自然主義文学の典型的な作品と言える。 島崎藤村の『破戒』は当時大きな反響を呼び、日本文学史においても近代自然主義文学の成立に決定的な役割を果たした作品である。被差別部落出身の主人公の内面的な葛藤と社会の偏見をリアルに描写し、自然主義のリアリズムの核心的な要素を具現化している。単なる個人の物語ではなく、社会構造と人間の本質に対する探究へとつながっている。しかし、その後は社会性を失い、赤裸々な自我の告白を通じて人生の真実を描き出し、身辺の現実を露骨に暴露した自己告白と人生の暗い面を過度に描写する傾向があった。『破戒』の後、自らの過去を振り返ろうとする意識を持つようになった。｢文学界｣時代の思い出を辿りながら、1908年に『春』を出版した。旧友や文壇関係者との関係が小説内で露骨に描かれたことで、当該人物との対立が生じ、社会的な論争へと発展し、自伝的小説の限界と責任が問われた。
