Objective: This study investigated whether primary lifetime occupational type influences successful aging among older adults. Method: Data were obtained from waves 1-8 of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) and the 2007 Occupational History Supplement Survey. Occupations were categorized as White-collar, Pink-collar, and Blue-collar based on the Korean Standard Classification of Occupations (KSCO). Successful aging was defined using the multidimensional model proposed by Rowe and Kahn. Hierarchical logistic regression was applied to examine the association between occupational type and successful aging, adjusting for socioeconomic and health-related factors. Results: Compared with White-collar workers, both Pink-collar and Blue-collar workers had lower odds of achieving successful aging; however, these differences were not statistically significant. After adjusting for covariates including age, education, income, and health behaviors, occupational disparities were further attenuated. Regular exercise, higher educational attainment, and moderate alcohol use were positively associated with successful aging. Conclusion: Primary lifetime occupational background may shape health outcomes in later life, but its effects appear to be largely explained by socioeconomic and behavioral factors. These findings underscore the need for tailored welfare and employment policies that address occupational disparities to promote successful aging among older adults.
