Objective: The physiological effectiveness of online home exercise training using an electromyography (EMG) app was studied. The effects of app use on ankle mobility, lower-extremity balance, and squat performance in an 8-week unilateral exercise program were examined. Method: Various parameters were measured three times (prior to as well as after 4 and 8 weeks of the program) to examine the effect of using the EMG app. Anke mobility (cm), Y balance test (YBT,%), and squat performance (mean power, Watt) were measured. The raw data for each item were analyzed using IBM SPSS 25.0. Repeated-measures two-way analysis of variance was used to examine the effect in different exercise groups over 8 weeks of online home training. Results: First, ankle mobility (cm) differed between the NEDT and EDT groups. The increase in ankle mobility between the groups who both used dumbbells was related to the app. Second, YBT group had a significant difference in the duration of both lower extremities, but no interaction effect occurred. Third, the squat performance considerably differed between the EDT and ERT groups. Conclusion: The mean power during squat performance also differed between the groups that did and did not use the EMG app. Increasing the load on the ankle during exercise may be effective for increasing ankle mobility depending on exercise skill level. These findingsuggest that learning proper movements and using an EMG app is helpful for increasing power.
