‘아이가 타고 있어요(Baby on board)’ 스티커 사용을 통해 살펴본 러시아 운전자들의 인식과 효용성 연구

A Study on Russian Drivers' Perceptions and the Utility of ‘Baby on board’ Stickers

차량용 스티커는 단순한 수리 용도로부터 시작해 사회·경제적 지위의 간접적인 표출 및 식별 수단에 이르기까지 다양한 용도로 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 ‘아이가 타고 있어요’ 스티커 사용에 착안하여 그 유래와 사용 실태, 스티커 사용에 대한 러시아 운전자들의 인식 그리고 스티커 사용의 효용성에 대한 교통 관련 분야 전문가들의 견해를 살펴보았다. 러시아에서 ‘아이가 타고 있어요’ 스티커의 부착은 법으로 규정되어 있지 않으며, 부착에 따른 법적 효력을 가지지 않는다. 하지만 많은 이들이 차량 뒷부분에 ‘아이가 타고 있어요’ 스티커를 부착하는데, 스티커 부착 이유는 크게 두 가지이다. 첫째, 사고 발생 시 아이의 탑승 가능성을 알려줌으로써 구조와 수색에 도움이 된다. 둘째, 스티커는 보통 어린이용 카시트가 설치된 쪽이나 아이가 타는 쪽의 차량 뒷유리에 부착한다. 만약 돌발 상황에서 후행 차량 운전자가 앞 차량으로 추돌이 불가피할 경우 스티커가 부착된 쪽을 피하도록 하기 위함이라는 것이다. 하지만 현실적으로 사고 상황에서 순간적으로 이러한 판단을 하기가 쉽지 않으며, 특히 스티커를 자세히 식별하는 것은 더욱 어렵다. 인터넷 포럼 사이트에 올라온 러시아 운전자의 댓글을 토대로 스티커 부착에 대한 러시아 운전자들의 인식을 살펴본 결과 다수는 스티커 사용의 효과에 대해 긍정적으로 보는 것으로 나타났다. 단순한 심리적 안정감을 얻는 효과에 불과하다거나 모든 운전자에게 안전 운행을 기대하기는 어렵다는 회의적이거나 부정적인 의견도 관찰되었다. 중요한 것은 아이의 안전은 스티커가 아니라 교통 법규에 따른 안전 운전으로 지켜진다는 점이다.

Car stickers serve a variety of purposes, ranging from simple repairs to indirect expressions and indicators of social and economic status. This study, focusing on the use of ‘Baby on board’ stickers, examined their origin and current usage, Russian drivers' perceptions of these stickers, and the opinions of traffic-related experts regarding their effectiveness. In Russia, affixing a ‘Baby on board’ sticker is not required by law and has no legal effect. Nevertheless, many people place these stickers on the rear of their vehicles for two main reasons. First, it alerts others to the possible presence of a child in the car, which can assist rescue and search efforts in the event of an accident. Second, the sticker is typically positioned on the rear window where the child's car seat is installed or where the child usually sits. The idea is that if a rear-end collision becomes unavoidable in an emergency, the driver of the other vehicle will avoid the side with the sticker. However, in reality, making such a split-second judgment during an accident is difficult, and recognizing the sticker in detail is even harder. Based on comments from Russian drivers posted on internet forums, an examination of their perceptions regarding sticker placement revealed that the majority view the use of stickers positively. However, some skeptical or negative opinions were also expressed, such as the belief that stickers provide only a simple psychological sense of security or that it is unrealistic to expect safe driving from all drivers. The crucial point is that a child's safety is ensured not by stickers, but by safe driving in accordance with traffic rules.
