A Study on the Digital Dissemination and Cultural Reinterpretation of the Manas Epic: Examples from Central Asia and China

<마나스>는 중앙아시아 튀르크어 민족의 가장 대표적인 영웅 서사시로, 디지털 시대는 구두 전승에서 다중 플랫폼 전파로의 깊은 변화를 겪었으며, 그 문화 형태, 서사적 의미 및 주체 구조에 뚜렷한 변화가 있었습니다. 이 글은 학문적 관점에서 <마나스>의 디지털 전파 다중 경로를 정리하고, 중앙아시아, 중국 및 글로벌 디지털 문화 체계에서의 재매체화 실천을 논의합니다. 디지털화가 가져온 의미 전이, 발언권 재분배 및 문화 정치 구도의 변화를 분석하고, 언어 간 전파 배경에서의 서사시 “재서술” 메커니즘을 밝혀냅니다. 연구에 따르면, 디지털화는 서사시의 보존 방식과 전파공간을 재구성할 뿐만 아니라, 문화 간 정체성을 재구성하여 <마나스>가 민족 서사에서 글로벌 문화유통 체계로 진입하게 했습니다. 디지털 플랫폼의 참여형 전파, 알고리즘 추천 및 다중 주체 공동창작의 추진 아래, 서사시는 점차 새로운 문화적 능동성을 얻었고, “대표”에서 “발달할 수 있는” 주체성으로의 전환을 실현했습니다. 따라서 <마나스>의 디지털 실천은 단순한 기술 변화가 아니라 문화 주체성, 지식 재생산 및 글로벌 담론 질서의 깊은 재구성이기도 합니다.

As the most representative heroic epic of the Turkic peoples of Central Asia, the *Manas* has undergone a profound transformation in the digital age, shifting from oral transmission to multiplatform dissemination. Its cultural form, narrative semantics, and main structure have all changed significantly. This paper, through an interdisciplinary perspective, traces the multiple paths of the digital dissemination of *Manas*, discussing its remediation practices in Central Asia, China, and the global digital cultural system. It further analyzes the semantic drift, redistribution of discourse power, and changes in cultural and political structures triggered by digitization, revealing the epic’s “renarration” mechanism in the context of cross-linguistic communication. Research shows that digitization has not only reshaped the way the epic is preserved and its dissemination space but also reconstructed its cross-cultural identity, enabling *Manas* to enter the global cultural circulation system from a national narrative. Driven by participatory dissemination on digital platforms, algorithmic recommendations, and multi-stakeholder co-creation, the epic has gradually acquired new cultural agency, achieving a shift from being “represented” to “having a voice. “ Therefore, the digital practice of *Manas* is not only a technological revolution but also a profound reshaping of cultural subjectivity, knowledge reproduction, and the global discourse order.
