A Comparative Study on Two Translated Versions of Wuthering Heights from the Perspective of Functional Translation Studies: A Study of Domestication and Foreignization

从功能翻译学视角对《呼啸山庄》的两个译本的比较研究——关于归化与异化的探讨

Emily Bronte is one of the most famous authoresses in the history of British literature; her novel Wuthering Heights also shows a kind of everlasting artistic charm because of its romantic writing style and its narrative structure. This thesis is to analyze the differences and similarities of the two translated versions of Wuthering Heights from the perspective of functional translation studies, and to discuss their language features and translation style, so as to make the readers understand the novel better. This thesis is structured as follows: it firstly introduces Emily Bronte and her fiction Wuthering Heights. Secondly, is to explain the concept of the perspective of functional translation studies, domestication and foreignization. Next, it analyzes the influence factors of the translator's choice of different translation methods, and the readers' reading experience and enlightenment from the different periods and different translated versions of this fiction. Then it gives some examples to illustrate and analyze the two Chinese versions of Wuthering Heights, to further explore the unique use of domestication and foreignization in Wuthering Heights. From the previous research findings, the translator should be objective and have a dialectical view of the advantages and disadvantages of domestication and foreignization in literary translation, and apply those two-translation principle and skills in writing and translation.

艾米莉·勃朗特是英国文学史上最著名的女作家之一；她的小说《呼啸山庄》因其浪漫的写作风格和叙事结构而展现出一种永恒的艺术魅力。本论文旨在从功能翻译研究的角度分析《呼啸山庄》的两个译本之间的差异与相似之处，并探讨其语言特征和翻译风格，以便让读者更好地理解这部小说。本论文的结构如下：首先介绍了艾米莉·勃朗特及其小说《呼啸山庄》。其次，解释了功能翻译研究视角、本土化和异化化的概念。接下来，分析了译者选择不同翻译方法的影响因素，以及不同时期和不同译本的这部小说给读者带来的阅读体验和启示。然后给出一些例子来说明和分析《呼啸山庄》的两个中文译本，进一步探讨《呼啸山庄》中本土化和异化化的独特运用。根据之前的研究结果，译者应当保持客观态度，并对本土化和异化这两种翻译方式的优缺点持辩证观点，将这两种翻译原则和技巧运用到写作和翻译过程中。
