Purpose : This study was a descriptive correlational study to identify the degree of life stress, stigma, perfectionistic self-presentation tendency, and professional help-seeking attitudes among college students and to identify factors influencing professional help-seeking attitudes. Methods : The participants were 171 students enrolled at universities located in the Daejeon and Chungbuk regions who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. A survey was conducted, and the collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 28. Results : College students’ attitudes toward seeking professional help showed negative correlations with life stress(r= -0.19, p=.014) and self-stigma(r=-0.38, p=<.001). life stress was positively correlated with self-stigma(r=.41, p=<.001), social stigma(r=0.33, p=<.001), and Perfectionistic self-presentation tendency(r=0.28, p=<.001). Factors that significantly influenced students’ attitudes toward seeking professional help were self-stigma and perfectionistic self-presentation tendency, and these variables accounted for 17% of the variance. Conclusion : As more positive attitudes toward seeking professional help can lead to increased opportunities to receive support from professionals, it is necessary to establish strategies that promote such attitudes among college students, especially to reduce the negative emotional experiences and uncertainties they face during their transition from adolescence to adulthood.
