Developing Instructional Support Strategies for Middle-to-High School Transitional Learners in English Learning

This study develops English supplementary materials to support students transitioning from middle to high school and outlines the development process. The transition period was conceptualized in six stages, and key learner competences were categorized through a Delphi survey. To identify challenges faced by transitional learners, the study analyzed the English curriculum along with student and teacher survey and interview data. Based on these findings, three supportive strategies are proposed: integrating achievement standards across productive and receptive skills, providing materials that strengthen grammatical competence, and offering vocabulary support tailored to learners’ needs during the transition. This study is expected to assist students by addressing major difficulties in English learning and enhancing their transition to high school.
