AI is increasingly utilized at conferences to mediate communications between different languages. Although the quality of interpreting using AI applications has undergone remarkable improvement, this study questions whether AI can substitute human interpreters - especially considering that comprehension of Source Language message require interpreters to draw from non-linguistic context such as contextual meaning and context of situation, not to mention from a pool of accumulated knowledge base. This study analyzes the Target Language renditions of human interpreters and AI in order to analyze the differences in contextual information in respective interpretation. Korean into English interpretation of political speeches by AI and human interpreters are analyzed. The result shows that AI can carry out conversion of voice-recognized speech in SL to TL in real time, but fails to recognize full scope of meaning in the message and contains higher number of ambiguities and meaning errors that are not found in human interpreting.
