Improvement of Gait Function in a Charcot-Marie-Tooth Patient Treated with Motion Style Acupuncture

Objectives To observe the effects of Korean medical complex treatment, including Motion Style Acupuncture Treatment (H-MST), on gait function and quality of life in a patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) type 1A. Methods A 67-year-old female patient with CMT type 1A received Korean medical complex treatment, including H-MST, for 57 days. Gait function, pain, and quality of life were evaluated using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), EQ-5D, and maximal independent walking distance. Results After treatment, improvements were observed in NRS, ODI, and EQ-5D scores, along with an increase in maximal independent walking distance. H-MST, which combines acupuncture with active movement, was consid-ered effective in promoting gait improvement. Conclusions This case suggests that Korean medical complex treatment, including H-MST, may contribute to im-provements in gait function and pain relief in patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
