탄소14연대로 본 김해 봉황동유적의 역연대

The Calendar Dates of Bonghwang-dong Site in Gimhae Based on Radiocarbon Dating

본 연구는 금관가야 도성의 핵심 공간으로 추정되는 김해 봉황동유적의 절대연대를 탄소14연대를 이용해 재검토하는 것이 목적이다. 최근 10여 년간 국립가야문화유산연구소의 학술발굴조사와 관련 연구를 통해 축적된 탄소14연대를 집성하여, 출토 맥락과 이력을 면밀히 검토한 데이터베이스를 구축하였다. 그 결과, 활용 가능한 75건의 신뢰성 있는 탄소14연대를 선별하였으며, OxCal 프로그램을 활용하여 결합연대(R_Combine), 누적확률분포(Sum), 그리고 베이즈 모델링을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 변한시기 문화층과 삼국시대문화층의 층위와 연대는 대체로 정합성을 보였으나, 대지조성층의 경우 혼입된 성토재의 특수한 이력으로 인해 편차가 확인되었다. 또한 봉황동유적 주변 회현리패총, 봉황초등학교유적, 119-1번지 및 240번지유적 등과의 비교를 통해 봉황동유적의 시간성이 봉황토성 내외의 공간에서 병행하고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 봉황동유적의 절대연대를 다각도로 검토함으로써 금관가야 도성의 시간성을 구체화하는 데 기여하였을 뿐만 아니라, 향후 연구에서 요구되는 과제도 제시하였다. 특히 발굴 이후 시료의 보관·측정·보고 과정에서 발생하는 기록 단절 문제를 지적하며, 표준화된 매뉴얼 구축과 전문가 협업을 통한 체계적 데이터베이스 관리의 필요성을 강조하였다. 이는 향후 한국고고학에서 탄소14연대를 활용한 연대 고찰의 신뢰성과 정밀도를 높이는 기반이 될 것이다.

This study re-examines the calendar dates of Bonghwang-dong site in Gimhae, regarded as the core of the Geumgwan Gaya capital, through radiocarbon dating. Over the past decade, numerous dates have been obtained from academic excavations by the Gaya National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. These were compiled into a database after careful evaluation of contexts and sampling histories, from which 75 reliable dates were selected. Analyses with the OxCal program, applying R_Combine, Sum, and Bayesian modeling, show that the stratigraphy of the Byeonhan and Three Kingdoms period cultural layers generally agrees with radiocarbon dates, while the construction layers display discrepancies due to redeposited fill materials. Comparative analysis with nearby sites, including Hoehyeon-ri Shell Mound, Bonghwang Elementary School, and the Bonghwang-dong 119-1 and 240 sites, confirms that the site’s chronology is closely tied to contemporary activities within and around the Bonghwang fortress. This study not only refines the temporal framework of the Geumgwan Gaya capital but also highlights the need to address discontinuities in sample management from excavation to reporting. It stresses the importance of standardized manuals and systematic database management in collaboration with specialists, providing a stronger foundation for reliable chronological research in Korean archaeology.
