Objective: This study examines the relationships among adult attachment, rejection sensitivity, self-compassion, and loneliness in college students, focusing on the mediating roles of re-jection sensitivity and self-compassion in the association between adult attachment and loneliness. Methods: A total of 300 undergraduate students (150 males, 150 females) completed an online sur-vey assessing adult attachment (ECR-R), rejection sensitivity (Rejection Sensitivity Scale), self-com-passion (K-SCS), and loneliness (UCLA Loneliness Scale). Data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS Macro (Model 6), employing the bootstrapping method for sequential mediation. Results:First, both attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety had significant direct effects on loneliness. College students with higher levels of attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety experienced greater loneliness. Second, attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety indirectly influenced lone-liness via rejection sensitivity, with attachment anxiety exerting a stronger impact on rejection sen-sitivity than attachment avoidance. Third, both attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety in-directly affected loneliness through self-compassion. Fourth, rejection sensitivity and self-compas-sion sequentially mediated the association between adult attachment and loneliness. Conclusions:Findings of this study underscore the need for attachment-informed interventions and provide pre-liminary evidence to guide the development of preventive programs aimed at reducing loneliness.
