Objective: This study aims to explore the experiences and change processes of abusive parents participating in a parent education program. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with six mothers who completed a parent education program designed for perpetrators of child abuse. The collected transcripts were analyzed using grounded theory procedures proposed by Strauss and Corbin (1998). Results: The analysis yielded 28 concepts, which were categorized into 14 subcategories and 6 main categories. The central phenomenon was identified as “crisis and confusion caused by the abuse incident.” Applying the paradigm model, the process of change experienced by abusive parents through participation in the program was revealed in four stages: resistance and denial → acceptance and reflection → practice and change → growth and reestablishment. Conclusions: This study holds significant value as it examines, through grounded theory, the lived experiences of parents who have committed child abuse-a population rarely included in research. By capturing the full process from the occurrence of abuse and offi-cial reporting to the experience of parent education, the study provides empirical insight into understanding the dynamics of abusive behavior and the potential for parental transformation.
