Early Childhood Physical Education in the Post-COVID-19 Era : Changes and Countermeasures

Objective: The purpose of this study is, first, to compare and examine the changes in early childhood physical education before and after COVID-19; second, to investigate the impact of these changes in early childhood physical education on child development; and third, to pres-ent pedagogical strategies for early childhood physical education in order to promote its qual-itative improvement. Methods: This study applied a literature review method to explore changes in early childhood physical education and possible response strategies after COVID-19. It re-viewed 16 domestic and 4 international publications to compare changes before and after COVID-19 and to incorporate an international perspective. Results: The results of this study are as follows. First, before COVID-19, early childhood physical education supported physical, cogni-tive, and social development through face-to-face and group-centered activities. Second, changes in early childhood physical education after COVID-19 had multidimensional effects on child development. Third, in response to early childhood physical education after COVID-19, it is necessary to develop blended programs combining online and offline elements, enhance teacher professionalism, link with families and communities, and provide policy support. Conclusions:Through this study, measures for future-oriented early childhood physical education were explored.
