창조란 무엇인가? - 협소화된 창조이해에서 포괄적인 창조이해로

What Is Creation?: From a Narrow View to a Comprehensive Theological Understanding

본 논문은 창세기 1-3장의 창조 본문에 의존하여 설정된 좁고 협소한 창조이해에서 벗어나야 한다고 주장하며, 성서신학과 교의학적 연구를 기반으로 한 포괄적인 창조이해를 소개하고자 한다. 포괄적인 창조이해를 수용하는 창조신학은 성서 전체에서 널리 공유되고 있는 창조 사상과 창조 본문에 대한 연구를 토대로 교의학적 전통을 수정, 심화, 확장하고 있다. 포괄적인 창조이해는 창조를 태곳적 특정 시점의 사건으로만 축소한 협소화된 창조이해와는 달리, 소위 무로부터의 창조(creatio ex nihilo)와 태초의 창조(creatio originalis)를 넘어서 하나님의 활동으로서의 창조에 내포되어 있는 다양하고 다층적인 의미를 새롭게 포착하며 하나님의 창조 사역을 삼위일체 하나님의 행위로 파악하며 인류와 우주의 역사 전체를 하나님의 창조 안에 포괄한다. 본 논문은 먼저 지금까지 통용되고 있는 협소한 창조이해는 무엇을 주장하고 무엇을 간과하는지, 거기에 내재된 문제점은 무엇인지를 지적한다(II). 또한 오늘날 구약성서 전체에 나타난 창조 개념과 신약성서의 창조 이해를 요약적으로 소개한 다음(III), 여기서 드러난 창조의 풍성한 의미 지평이 교의학적 전통과 조직신학적 작업에서는 어떻게 전개되었는지를 소개하고자 한다(IV). 이를 통해 본 논문은 협소하고 편협하게 정리된 통속적인 창조이해를 수정하여 풍성하고 포괄적인 창조의 의미 지평을 드러냄으로써 교회 안팎에서 주어지는 오늘날의 다양한 도전에 대해 응답할 수 있는 창조신학의 토대를 검토하고자 한다.

This paper argues that we must move beyond a narrow and restrictive understanding of creation that is confined to the creation texts of Genesis 1-3, and seeks to introduce a comprehensive understanding of creation grounded in biblical theology and systematic theology. A theology of creation that embraces such a comprehensive view revises, deepens, and expands the doctrinal tradition by drawing upon the widespread creation motifs found throughout Scripture and by engaging with exegetical studies of the creation texts. This broader theology of creation reinterprets not only the ‘creatio ex nihilo’ and ‘creatio originalis’ -understood as singular events at the primordial beginning- but also the diverse and multilayered meanings inherent in creation as the ongoing activity of God. Moreover, it perceives the work of creation as the act of the Triune God, thereby encompassing the entirety of human and cosmic history in it. This paper first points out what the prevailing narrow understanding of creation asserts, what it overlooks, and what problems are inherent in it (II). It will then briefly introduce the concept of creation as it appears throughout the Old Testament and the understanding of creation in the New Testament (III). Finally, it will present how the rich horizon of meaning revealed here has been developed in the dogmatic tradition and in systematic theological work (IV). Through this, the study aims to move beyond the narrow and reductionist popular conception of creation by articulating its richer and more comprehensive horizon, thereby exploring the theological foundations of creation that can address the diverse challenges facing both church and society today.
