This paper examines the Antioch incident in Galatians 2:11-14 in continuity with the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15, offering a detailed analysis of the Gentile issue facing the early church and the theological and communal conflicts that emerged from it. It first investigates the nature of the apostolic decree agreed upon at the Jerusalem Council and its practical implementation within the Antioch church, while exploring the motivation behind Peter’s withdrawal from table fellowship with Gentile believers. The study then demonstrates that Peter’s actions, contrary to his intention, implicitly imposed legal observance upon Gentile Christians — particularly those from God-fearer backgrounds — and thus generated significant tensions between Jewish and Gentile members within the community. Within this context, Paul’s public rebuke is interpreted not as a mere personal confrontation but as a theological response aimed at defending the truth of the gospel and preserving the identity of the Christian community.
