디트리히 본회퍼의 저항권 사상 연구 - 루터파 전통의 관점에서

A Study on the Thinking of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Resistance: In terms of the Lutheran Tradition

본 논문은 디트리히 본회퍼(Dietrich Bonhoeffer, 1906-1945)의 저항권 사상을 마르틴 루터와 루터파 전통의 관점에서 분석한다. 본회퍼의 저항권 사상은 루터의 두 왕국론 신학을 기반으로 하여 형성되었다. 이와 관련하여 학자들 사이에 비판이 제기되었다. 비판의 요지는 히틀러 나치 치하 독일 그리스도인의 국가와 사회를 향한 태도를 고려해 볼 때 과연 루터의 두 왕국론에서 국가 권력에 대항한 저항 사상을 찾아볼 수 있는가에 대한 의구심이다. 따라서 본회퍼의 정치 윤리는 루터와 루터파 전통 밖에서 찾아야 한다는 의견이다. 이에 대한 반론은 본회퍼의 저항권 사상의 기본 토대는 루터와 루터파 전통에 기인한다는 견해이다. 반론의 요지는 본회퍼의 교회 개념, 국가 권력의 기능과 역할, 그리스도인의 사회 윤리적 행동 양식에 관한 담론은 히틀러 제3 제국의 특정한 역사적 사태와 긴밀하게 결부되어 있지만, 본회퍼의 저항권은 루터의 두 왕국 사상을 근간으로 하여 나치 치하 교회의 투쟁 기간을 거치면서 단계적으로 발전해 나갔다는 주장이다. 그러므로 이 글은 본회퍼의 정치신학 형성의 역사적인 배경, 즉 그의 저항권 사상이 루터 신학 및 루터파 전통과 어떻게 내재적 연관성이 있는지를 탐구하고 본회퍼의 저항권 사상의 정치신학의 기초와 그 구조를 연구하여 그 현대적 의미를 고찰해 보고자 한다. 결국 본 연구는 루터와 루터파 전통과 본회퍼 사상은 서로 불연속적이며 특히 저항권과 관련하여 본회퍼는 루터파 전통과 단절되어 있다는 비판에 대한 응답이다.

This thesis analyzes the thinking of Dietrich Bonhoeffer(1906-1945) in terms of the Lutheran tradition. Bonhoeffer draws his idea of the right to resistance in the church struggle from Luther’s two kingdoms theory. Criticism has been raised among scholars regarding this connection in Bonheoffer’s thought. The point of criticism is the question of whether Luther’s two kingdoms theory provides resources for Christian political ethics against Hitler’s regime. These critics insist that Luther’s two kingdom’s doctrine does not include Christian political resistance to political authority, and that Lutheran tradition characteristically gives excessive autonomy to political authority. On the other hand, some scholars argue that Bonhoeffer’s ideas regarding resistance to political authority are formed based on Luther’s two kingdoms theory. They maintain that while Bonhoeffer’s discourse on the nature of church, the function and role of the state, and the social and ethical behavior of Christians is closely linked to certain historical situations in Hitler’s third Reich, Bonhoeffer’s right to resistance to authority developed gradually throughout Luther’s two kingdoms. Therefore, this article examines the theological basis of Bonhoeffer’s political theology, that is to say, how Bonhoeffer intrinsically is connected with Lutheran tradition on the question of resistance to authority. The paper is a response to criticism that Lutheran tradition and Bonhoeffer’s ideas on resistance are discontinuous and also tries to draw out the modern meaning of Bonhoeffer’s thinking on the church and on a Christian attitude to the state.
