극우 개신교와 후기 자본주의 파시즘 - 통계적 분석의 신학적 성찰

Extreme-Right Protestantism and Late Capitalist Fascism: A Theological Reflection on Statistical Analysis

이 연구는 한국 개신교 신앙과 미컬 볼트 라스무센(Mikkel Bolt Ras-mussen)이 “후기 자본주의 파시즘”이라고 부르는 현상의 얽힘을 신학적으로 해석한다. 극우 개신교를 주변부의 병리로 취급하기보다는, 특정한 하나님·교회·이웃 상이 어떻게 권위주의적 욕망, 시장 절대주의, 문화적 배제를 신성화하는지를 묻는다. 전국 단위의 한국 개신교인 설문 자료를 진단의 렌즈로 삼아, 이러한 정치적·정동적 경향이 신앙 외부에 있는 것이 아니라 오히려 일상적 신앙, 교회 구조, 신학적 언어 속에 짜여 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로, 이 연구는 후기 자본주의 파시즘이 한국 교회의 권위주의적 구조와 그 혐오·배제의 역학을 떠받치는 내적 동력으로 기능한다고 주장한다. 이 파시즘은 신앙의 이름으로 위계적이고 불투명한 교회 권력을 정당화하고, 취약한 타자에 대한 적대감을 일상적인 것으로 정상화한다. 결론에서는 하나님, 교회, 민주주의, 경제 생활에 대한 그리스도교적 이해를 재구성하기 위한 규범적 방향을 개괄함으로써, 후기 자본주의 사회의 종교적 파시즘의 흐름에 대해 개신교 신앙이 그것을 강화하는 힘이 아니라 저항하는 힘이 될 수 있는 길을 모색한다.

This article offers a Christian theological interpretation of the entanglement between Korean Protestant faith and what Mikkel Bolt Rasmussen calls “late capitalist fascism.” Rather than treating extreme-right Protestantism as a marginal pathology, it asks how particular images of God, church, and neighbor serve to sacralize authoritarian desire, market absolutism, and cultural exclusion. Using nationwide survey data on Korean Protestants as a diagnostic lens, the article shows that these political and affective tendencies are not external to faith, but are instead woven into everyday piety, ecclesial structures, and theological language. On this basis, the article argues that late capitalist fascism functions as an internal driving force behind the authoritarian structures of the Korean church and its dynamics of hatred and exclusion. It legitimizes hierarchical and opaque church power and normalizes hostility toward vulnerable others in the name of faith. In conclusion, the article sketches normative directions for reconfiguring Christian understandings of God, church, democracy, and economic life, thereby exploring how Protestant faith might become a force of resistance, rather than reinforcement, with respect to religious fascist currents in late capitalist society.
