中韩日越四国同形异义汉字词“丁宁”的语义演变考察

A Study on the Semantic Evolution of the Homograph ‘丁宁’ in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese

본 연구는 한자문화권의 주요 언어인 중국어⋅한국어⋅일본어⋅베트남어에 공통적으로 존재하는 동형이의한자어 ‘丁宁’을 대상으로, 그 어원적 기원과 역사적 의미 변천 및 각 언어에서의 본토화 양상을 종합적으로 비교⋅분석하였다. 연구 결과, ‘丁宁’은 중국 고대 군용악기 ‘정(钲)’에서 기원하여 한자문화권 내로 전파되는 과정에서 사회⋅문화적 요인과 언어 체계의 차이에 따라 의미가 점차 다층적으로 분화⋅확장되었음을 확인하였다. 특히 각국의 역사적 배경과 문화적 가치관의 영향을 받아, ‘丁宁’은 중국에서는 ‘정중하고 간곡한 태도’, 한국에서는 ‘확실히⋅진심으로’,일본에서는 ‘예의 바르고 공손한 말’, 베트남에서는 ‘확신하다⋅변함없다’의 의미로 각각 본토화되며 독자적인 의미 체계를 형성하였다. 이러한 결과는 ‘丁宁’의 의미 변화가 단순한 언어적 진화가 아닌, 각 언어의 문화적⋅사회적 맥락 속에서 이루어진 상호작용의 산물임을 보여준다. 본 연구는 기존의 한중⋅한일 중심 연구를 확장하여 베트남어를 포함한 4국 언어를 통합적으로 고찰함으로써, 한자어 의미 변천의 보편성과 문화적 특수성을 규명하고, 한자문화권 어휘 연구의 이론적 범위를 확장하는 데 학문적 의의를 지닌다.

This study investigates the homographic Sino-character word “Dingning” (丁宁), shared across four major Sinosphere languages—Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese. It examines the word’s etymology, semantic evolution, and localization in each language through philological and comparative analysis. The findings reveal that “Dingning” originated from “Zheng”(鉦), an ancient Chinese military instrument, and diversified in meaning as it spread across the Sinosphere under varying socio-cultural and linguistic conditions. The semantic transformations of “Dingning” reflect both the retention of its etymological core and the creation of localized meanings, influenced by each nation’s historical and cultural background. By integrating four languages rather than limiting to bilateral comparisons, this study provides a comprehensive view of Sino-character lexical diffusion and highlights the interplay between semantic change and cultural context. The research contributes to understanding the universal and culture-specific aspects of Sino-character word evolution and offers implications for cross-linguistic and cultural studies within the Sinosphere.
