중국 교과서 속 미국과 세계질서 담론 서술의 변화- 시진핑 집권 2기 이후 대미 인식의 재구성-

Changes in the Narratives of the United States and the World Order in Chinese Textbooks : Reconstructing Perceptions of the United States in the Xi Jinping Era (Second Term)

본 연구는 시진핑 집권 2기 이후 중국이 교육을 국가 전략 수행의 핵심 도구로 활용하는 과정에서 역사 교과서 국정화를 통해 미국 관련 인식과 세계질서 담론을 어떻게 재구성하고 있는지 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 중국의 ‘교육 강국’ 전략과 중국식 현대화 담론은 단순한 교육 개혁이 아니라, 글로벌 교육 영향력 확대 및 대안적 국제질서 구축과 연계된 정치·이념적 성격을 지닌다. 특히 2017년 이후 개편된 중·고등학교 『세계역사』 및 『중국역사』 교과서와 대학 교재에서 미국 관련 서술은 점차 비판적·부정적 성향을 강화하며, 항미원조 서술 확대와 연계되어 중국식 세계질서 정당화의 핵심 서사 장치로 기능하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 교과서 서술 변화의 이념적·정치적 의미를 검토함으로써 중국 역사교육을 매개로 한 미국 인식 변화와 세계질서에 대한 전략적 함의를 규명하고자 한다.

This study examines how China has utilized education as a strategic governing tool during Xi Jinping’s second term, focusing particularly on the nationalization of history textbooks and the reconstruction of narratives concerning the United States and the world order. China’s “powerful education state” strategy and the discourse of “Chinese modernization” extend beyond domestic educational reform and function as mechanisms for expanding global educational influence and advancing an alternative international order. Since the implementation of nationalized textbooks in 2017, descriptions of the United States in revised secondary history textbooks including World History and Chinese History－as wel as university-level materials have increasingly shifted toward critical and negative interpretations. This trend is closely linked to strengthened narratives of the Korean War (“War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea”) and represents a discursive strategy to legitimize a China centered global order. By analyzing these textual shifts, this study identifies the ideological and political implications embedded in China’s history curriculum and explores how evolving representations of the United States contribute to the formation of China’s intended global vision.
