전통 민요연구 경향분석 - 연구 결과를 중심으로

Trend Analysis of Traditional Folk Song Research : Focusing on Research Results

본 연구의 목적은 2000년부터 2025년까지 발표된 국내 민요 관련 연구 145편(등재 학술지 논문 122편, 박사학위 논문 23편)을 대상으로 민요 연구의 경향을 유형별로 체계적으로 분석하고 발전 방향을 모색하는 데 있다. 연구 대상은 지난 25년간 국내에서 발표된 민요 관련 논문 및 박사학위 논문으로 한정하였다. 연구 방법은 질적연구, 양적연구, 혼합연구로 구분하였으며, 각 연구의 결론을 현상도출형, 대안도출형, 현장적용형으로 분류하여 민요 연구의 흐름과 특징을 통합적으로 고찰하였다. 분석 결과, 전체 연구 중 현상도출형 연구가 119편(81.3%)으로 가장 높은 비중을 차지하였으며 이는 민요가 지역성, 전승성, 문화적 맥락을 기반으로 하는 구비예술이라는 특성상 음악 구조, 전승 양상, 사회문화적 의미를 해석적으로 규명하는 질적 연구가 주된 연구 방식임을 보여준다. 반면, 대안도출형 연구는 22편(15.1%)으로 나타났으며 주로 교육 분야에서 지도방안, 분류기준, 활용방법을 제시하는 형태로 이루어졌다. 현장적용형 연구는 5편(3.4%)으로 가장 낮은 비중을 보였으며 분석 결과를 실제 교육 현장 또는 음악 교육 자료 개발에 직접 적용한 연구이다. 이와 같은 분석을 통해 지난 25년간의 민요 연구는 현상 중심의 질적 연구를 기반으로 교육, 분류, 활용을 향한 대안 제시 연구, 그리고 제한적이지만 현장적용 연구의 구조로 발전해 왔음을 확인하였다. 이는 민요 연구가 학술적 축적을 넘어 교육, 문화 현장과의 연계를 강화하기 위해서는 혼합연구 및 양적연구의 확장이 필요함을 시사한다. 본 연구는 민요 연구의 학문적 흐름을 통시적으로 제시함으로써 향후 민요 연구가 발전하기 위해서는 혼합연구와 양적연구의 활성화가 되어 균형적인 발전이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study examines research trends in Korean folk song (minyo) studies published between 2000 and 2025 through a systematic analysis of 145 domestic studies, including 122 accredited journal articles and 23 doctoral dissertations. The studies were classified by methodology into qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research, and by research outcomes into phenomenon-identification, alternative proposition, and field-application types. The analysis reveals that phenomenon identification studies constitute the majority (81.3%), reflecting the predominance of qualitative approaches that interpret musical structures, transmission processes, and sociocultural meanings inherent in minyo as an orally transmitted folk art. Alternative proposition studies (15.1%) primarily focus on educational strategies, classification systems, and practical applications, while field-application studies remain limited (3.4%). Overall, minyo research over the past 25 years has been largely grounded in phenomenon-centered qualitative inquiry, with gradual expansion toward applied and practice-oriented research. These findings suggest the need for greater methodological diversification, particularly through the expansion of quantitative and mixed-methods approaches, to strengthen the linkage between academic research and educational or cultural practice and to promote more balanced development in future minyo studies.
