성인 발달장애인 보호자들이 경험한 주간보호시설 이용에 대한 질적연구

A qualitative study on the use of day care facilities by caregivers of adults with developmental disabilities

본 연구는 성인 발달장애인 보호자들이 경험한 주간보호시설 이용의 의미를 현상학적 관점에서 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 충청남도 지역 주간보호시설을 이용하는 성인 발달장애인 보호자 7명을 대상으로 2025년 6월 말부터 7월 말까지 약 4주 동안 반구조화된 심층면담을 실시하고, Giorgi(2010)의 현상학적 분석 절차를 적용하여 보호자들의 주관적 경험을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 5개의 핵심주제, 10개의 본질적 주제, 20개의 의미 주제가 도출되었다. 이러한 결과는 주간보호시설이 단순한 돌봄 공간이 아닌 보호자의 삶의 리듬을 회복시키는 사회적 안전망으로 기능함을 보여주었다. 특히 본 연구는 지방 중소도시라는 지역 맥락을 반영한 현상학적 접근을 통해, 제도 중심 담론에서 벗어나 생활세계 중심의 복지경험을 조명했다는 점에서 기존 연구와 차별화된다. 연구 결과를 토대로, 본 연구는 성인기 이후에도 지속 가능한 돌봄 연계체계 구축, 개별화된 교육·여가 프로그램 개발, 지역 기반 접근성 개선 및 복지정보 격차 해소, 공공 책임 강화를 통한 장기 돌봄체계 마련의 필요성을 제언하였다.

This study explored the meaning of adult day-care service utilization as experienced by caregivers of adults with developmental disabilities from a phenomenological perspective. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with seven caregivers between June and July 2025, and the collected data were analyzed following Giorgi’s (2010) phenomenological analysis procedure. As a result, five core themes, ten essential themes, and twenty meaning units were derived. The findings revealed that adult day-care centers function not merely as spaces for protection but as social safety nets that help caregivers restore the rhythm of their daily lives. In particular, this study is distinguished from previous research by adopting a phenomenological approach that reflects the regional context of small and medium-sized local cities, thereby illuminating caregiving experiences grounded in the lifeworld rather than institutional or policy-centered discourse. Based on these findings, the study emphasizes the necessity of establishing a sustainable care network beyond adulthood, developing individualized educational and leisure programs, improving regional accessibility and reducing welfare information disparities, and reinforcing public responsibility for a long-term care system. The results provide empirical insights into the lived experiences of caregivers and offer practical implications for developing community-based welfare policies aimed at ensuring the continuity of care for adults with developmental disabilities.
