The Relationship between Oral Health Awareness Behavior and Oral Health Status in Middle-aged Adults and Metabolic Syndrome: Analysis of Data from the 2023 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

Objectives: This study examinde the relationship between the oral health consciousness behavior and oral health status of middle-aged and metabolic syndrome. Methods: Data from 2,289 people aged 40 to 64 years old with five components of metabolic syndrome were selected for analysis from the 2nd year (2023) of the 9th National Health and Nutrition Survey. Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was significantly higher among individuals who smoked, experienced chewing discomfort, or reported toothache. In contrast, those who brushed their teeth more than three times a day, received regular oral examinations, or utilized dental clinics or hospitals demonstrated a lower risk of developing metabolic syndrome. Conclusions: Public health strategies are needed that encourage adherence to regular oral check-ups and the consistent practice of daily oral health behaviors.
