Correlation Analysis between Learning-Related Factors and Major Satisfaction in Dental Hygiene Students

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-directed learning ability, learning flow, class participation, and major satisfaction among 168 dental hygiene students at a university located in Region K. Methods: Differences in self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation according to general characteristics were analyzed using t-test and one-way ANOVA. Additionally, Pearson's correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation. Results: Major satisfaction showed a significant positive correlation with self-directed learning ability (r=.262, p<0.001), learning flow (r=.285, p<0.001), and class participation (r=.208, p<0.01). In addition, self-directed learning ability showed a significant positive correlation with learning flow (r=.710, p<0.01) and class participation (r=.660, p<0.01), and learning flow showed a significant positive correlation with class participation (r=.638, p<0.01). Conclusions: It is believed that improving the self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation of dental hygiene students has a positive effect on increasing satisfaction with the major. Therefore, it is believed that it is necessary to create a systematic educational environment and develop teaching methods to strengthen self-directed learning ability.
