조경설계 교육에서 생성형 AI의 적용과 시사점

Applications and Implications of Generative AI in Landscape Design Education

본 연구는 생성형 인공지능(Generative AI)을 조경설계 교육에 적용하였을 때, 활용 가능성과 효과를 분석한 연구이다. 최근 AI 기술은 이미지 생성, 자료 분석, 개념 도출 등 설계 과정에서 다양하게 활용되며, 디자인의 생산성과 표현의 폭을 크게 확장시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 조경 및 건축 분야의 일반적 설계 프로세스를 기반으로 생성형 AI 활용방안을 설정하고, 조경설계 스튜디오 수업 경험이 있는 학생들을 대상으로 설계 실험과 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 그 결과, AI는 설계 과정의 효율성과 시각화 능력을 향상시키고, 학습자의 창의적 사고를 자극하는 보조적 역할을 수행하였다. 그러나 정밀한 설계 검증 단계에서는 인간의 판단과 해석이 여전히 중요했으며, 일부 참여자는 기술 의존성과 결과의 불확실성을 한계로 인식하였다. 이러한 결과는 AI가 설계자의 사고를 대체하는 기술이 아니라 사고를 확장하고 보조하는 학습 매개체임을 보여준다. 본 연구는 향후 조경설계 교육이 AI 활용 능력과 창의적 해석력을 균형 있게 강화하여, 인간과 인공지능의 협업을 통한 새로운 설계 교육모델로 발전할 필요가 있음을 제안한다.

This study analyzes the potential applications and effects of applying generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) to landscape design education. In recent years, AI technologies have been used in various stages of the design process, including image generation, data analysis, and concept derivation, greatly expanding both the productivity and expressive range of design. In this study, based on the general design process in the fields of landscape architecture and architecture, strategies for utilizing generative AI were established, and design experiments and interviews were conducted with students who had prior experience in landscape design studio courses. The results show that AI enhanced the efficiency of the design process and the quality of visualization, and served as an auxiliary tool that stimulated learners’ creative thinking. However, human judgment and interpretation remained crucial in the phase of detailed design verification, and some participants perceived technological dependence and the uncertainty of AI-generated outcomes as major limitations. These findings indicate that AI is not a technology that replaces designers’ thinking, but rather a learning mediator that extends and supports it. The study suggests that future landscape design education needs to strengthen AI literacy and creative interpretive capability in a balanced manner, and evolve into a new design education model based on collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence.
