인물 찬(讚)⋅사물 찬(讚)의 칭송 담화 비교 분석과 그 교육적 의미

A Comparative Analysis of Commendatory Discourse in Inmul-chan and Samul-chan and Its Educational Implications

이 연구는 한문 문체 중 송찬류(頌讚類) 가운데 ‘찬(讚)’에 주목하여, ‘인물 찬’과 ‘사물 찬’의 칭송 담화를 비교⋅분석하고 그 교육적 의미를 탐색한 것이다. 동문선(東文選)과 속동문선(續東文選)에 수록된 ‘찬’ 텍스트 중에서 정치⋅종교적 이념성이 강한 글과 분류가 모호한 사례를 제외하고 19편(인물 7편, 사물 12편)을 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 분석 결과, ‘인물 찬’은 ‘행적-사실 평정형’ 표현 전략을 사용하며, 겸양과 예의를 중시하는 서술 태도를 보이고, 존경과 공동체성의 정서를 보였다. 반면, ‘사물 찬’은 ‘속성-덕목 전환형’ 표현 전략을 사용하며, 체험과 공존의 서술 태도를 지니고, 감응과 친밀성의 정서를 드러냈다. 이러한 분석을 토대로 ‘찬’ 텍스트가 국어과 교육과정의 핵심 역량 중 비판적⋅창의적 사고, 의사소통, 공동체⋅대인관계, 문화 향유, 자기 성찰⋅계발 역량을 기르는 데 유용함을 확인하였다. 즉 ‘찬’은 인물과 사물, 논리와 정서, 미학과 윤리적 가치를 매개하여 언어가 대상의 덕성을 인식, 표현하고 이를 공동체적으로 공유하고 재생산하는 방식을 보여줌으로써, 과거의 문체를 현재의 교육적 자원으로 재맥락화하는 데 기여한다고 할 수 있다.

This study focuses on chan (讚), a subgenre within the Chinese literary style songchanryu (頌讚類), and aims to compare and analyze the commendatory discourse of “person chan” and “object chan,” while exploring their educational implications. Among the chan texts contained in Dongmunseon (東文選) and Sokdongmunseon (續東文選), nineteen works (seven person chan and twelve object chan) were selected for analysis, excluding those with strong political or religious ideologies or ambiguous classifications. The analysis revealed that “person chan” typically employs a deed–moral evaluation strategy, characterized by a narrative attitude emphasizing modesty and propriety, and expressing respect and communal sentiment. In contrast, “object chan” adopts a trait–virtue transformation strategy, marked by a narrative stance of experiential coexistence and emotional tones of empathy and intimacy. Based on these findings, the study confirms that chan texts can effectively foster several core competencies in the Korean language curriculum—critical and creative thinking, communication, interpersonal and community engagement, cultural appreciation, and self-reflection. In this way, chan serves as a medium that connects persons and objects, reason and emotion, and aesthetic and ethical values, demonstrating how language perceives, expresses, and collectively shares virtue. Thus, the study recontextualizes this classical literary style as a meaningful educational resource for contemporary language education.
