이 연구는 문학교육을 통한 타자 이해를 실현하기 위해서는 독자의 공감과 소통을 이끌어 내는 교육이 우선되어야 한다고 보고, 최은영의 단편소설 ｢씬짜오, 씬짜오｣를 통해 이를 가능하게 하는 교수·학습 방안을 제시한다. ｢씬짜오, 씬짜오｣는 개인적 차원과 역사적⋅사회적 맥락이 중첩된 타자성을 동시에 보여주는 작품이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 이 작품을 통한 공감과 소통 교육은 학습자가 타자를 개인적 차원과 역사적 차원에서 입체적으로 이해하고, 타자와의 관계 속에서 자신의 인식 틀을 재구성할 수 있도록 하는 데 초점을 두어야 한다. 이에 이 연구는 학습자가 타자성을 인식하고 타자에 대한 공감과 소통 능력을 발달시킬 수 있도록 돕는 교수⋅학습 방안으로써 구체적으로 ‘확장적 읽기’와 ‘타자-되기의 글쓰기’라는 전략을 제안한다. 이러한 논의는 문학이 학습자에게 제공할 수 있는 윤리적 상상력과 감수성의 교육적 의의를 재확인하고, 오늘날 문학교육이 지향해야 할 방향을 심화하고 구체화하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
This study argues that fostering empathy and communication in readers should be prioritized in literary education to facilitate a deeper understanding of the Other. Using Choi Eun-young’s short story ｢Xin chào, Xin chào｣ as a central text, the study proposes instructional strategies designed to cultivate learners’ empathetic and ethical engagement. The story reveals alterity not only at the personal level but also within intersecting historical and social contexts, making it a valuable resource for teaching multidimensional perspectives of the Other. Accordingly, the study emphasizes that literary education should guide learners toward recognizing difference and reconstructing their cognitive frameworks through relational encounters with the Other. Two key pedagogical approaches are suggested: expansive reading and writing as becoming-Other. Expansive reading encourages students to engage with intertextual and contextual dimensions of the narrative, while writing as becoming-Other invites them to imaginatively inhabit alternative perspectives. These strategies aim to develop ethical imagination and communicative sensitivity, highlighting literature’s potential to nurture critical empathy. Ultimately, this study contributes to rethinking the aims of contemporary literary education by affirming its role in shaping socially responsive, ethically aware individuals.
