중국 서예가들은 왜 한국으로 유학하여 서예교육을 공부하는가 : 중국 유학생들의 이중언어학위과정 입학 동기에 관한 연구

Why Do Chinese Calligraphers Study Calligraphy Education in Korea : A Study on the Motivations of Chinese International Students Enrolling in Bilingual Degree Programs

본 연구는 중국 유학생들이 한국 대학원의 이중언어학위과정을 선택하는 유학 동기에 대한 고찰을 통해 ‘한국에서 중국어로 유학하기’라는 이중언어학위과정의 독특한 교육사회학적 현상을 규명하는 것을 목표로 하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중국인 서예가들이 서예교육과 관련하여 서예의 종주국인 중국에서 대학원 과정을 이수하지 않고, 한국 대학원의 이중언어학위과정에 입학하여 서예교육을 공부하는 독특한 교육학적 양상을 중심으로 질적 사례연구를 진행하였다. 이중언어학위과정으로 운영되고 있는 S대 대학원에 재학 중인 중국 서예가 8인을 연구대상으로 선정하였고, 프랑스의 사회학자 피에르 부르디외의 교육 ‘장’ 논의를 이론적 근거로 삼아 심층인터뷰를 통해 이들의 한국 유학 동기를 살펴봄으로써, 이들이 한국 교육 ‘장’을 택한 근원적인 질문의 해답을 찾고자 하였다.

This study investigates the distinctive educational-sociological phenomenon of bilingual degree programs in Korea by examining why Chinese calligraphers choose such programs. A qualitative case study focused on the unexpected pattern that these calligraphers, instead of pursuing graduate studies in China-the birthplace of calligraphy-enroll in bilingual degree programs at Korean graduate schools to study calligraphy education. Eight Chinese calligraphers enrolled in S University’s bilingual program were selected as participants. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of educational fields, the study used in-depth interviews to explore their motivations for studying in Korea and to consider the educational-sociological implications of bilingual degree programs.
