외국인 유학생의 인성교육 교과목 수업에서 학습 경험과 변화 인식의 질적 탐색: S여대 운영 사례

A Qualitative Study on International Students’ Learning Experiences and Perceived Changes in a Character Education Course: The Case of S Women’s University

본 연구는 S여대에서 외국인 유학생만을 대상으로 운영된 6주 비합숙형 교양필수 인성교육 교과목을 사례로, 유학생들의 인성교육 기대, 수업 참여 학습 경험, 인식된 변화와 개선 요구를 질적으로 탐색하였다. 참여자는 해당 분반 수강생 17명(베트남 14명, 몽골 2명, 일본 1명)이며, 자료는 자기성장기록, 개방형 설문, 관찰기록, 팀 활동 산출물·발표자료로 구성하였다. 자료는 주제분석(초기 코딩–범주화–주제 통합)으로 분석되었고, 삼각검증·동료검토·반성적 메모로 신뢰도를 확보하였다. 분석 결과, 기대는 ‘개인 내적 역량’, ‘관계·사회적 역량’, ‘공동체 역량’으로 범주화되었다. 학습 경험은 ‘나다움·자신’, ‘타인과의 관계’, ‘공동체 가치와 문화’로 도출되었으며, 팀 활동과 성찰 과제가 언어·문화 장벽 완화, 관계 형성·정서 안정에 기여하였다. 인식된 변화로는 자기성찰·강점 인식 강화, 자기효능감·소속감 향상, 공감·배려·책임 실천 의지 증대가 보고되었고, 개선 요구는 활동 다양화, 피드백·준비 시간 확대, 언어·문화 고려 팀 구성 정교화였다. 본 연구는 유학생 인성교육을 ‘기대–경험–인지된 변화’ 구조로 제시하며, 맞춤형 교과 설계·운영 시사점을 제공하나, 단일 사례·단기 자기보고 한계로 후속 연구에서 면담·장기 추적·비교집단 검증이 요구된다.

This study qualitatively examined international students' expectations, experiences, perceived changes, and suggestions in a 6-week non-residential character education course at S Women's University (N=17). Data from self-growth records, surveys, observations, and team outputs underwent thematic analysis via triangulation and peer debriefing. Expectations encompassed personal, relational-social, and community competencies. Experiences themed self-authenticity, relationships, and community values/culture; team/reflective activities alleviated language and cultural barriers and boosted emotional adjustment. Perceived changes included enhanced self-reflection, self-efficacy, belonging, empathy, and responsibility. Suggestions included diversifying activities, extending preparation time, and tailoring teams by language and cultural backgrounds. Findings frame an expectation–experience–change model for tailored character education design, limited by single-case and short-term data; future research needs interviews and longitudinal comparisons.
