This study examined priority of the canine behavioral problems and owner perception bias across different groups in South Korea, surveying 142 pet owners (78.2% female) throughout June 2025. The most prevalent behavior reported across all participants was attachment and attention-seeking behavior (2.27±1.31). The research established a behavioral problem tolerance group (14.9%), owners who experienced problems but did not perceive them as such (χ =13.067, p<.001). A subsequent 2 test revealed this tolerance group significantly under-reported the severity of five behavioral problem factors compared to the awareness group, despite no significant difference in seven factors. This discrepancy confirms the presence of a perception bias, minimizing the severity of behavioral problems. The findings suggest the need for educational programs focused on improving owners’ objective perception, thereby enhancing canine physical and emotional health and reducing relinquishment.
