본 연구는 대학영어 글쓰기 수업에서 저널 쓰기의 특징과 그 유용성을 고찰하여 교육적 시사점을제시하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구에는 두 학급이 참여했으며, 6주간 총 120편의 저널이 제출되었으며, 제출된 저널의 특성을 조사, 분석하였다. 또한, 저널 쓰기 활동이 영어 글쓰기 수업에 도움이되는지 알아보기 위해 설문조사를 실시하였다. 제출된 저널 분석 결과, 동료 피드백의 내용은 5가지유형인 형식, 내용, 문법, 어휘, 칭찬으로 나뉘었고, 학생들이 이를 글쓰기에서 수용하는 내용도 5가지유형인 흡수, 평가, 대안, 독자, 인식과 같이 분류되었다. 설문조사에 따르면, 다수의 학생은 영어 글쓰기수업에서 저널 쓰기 활동이 ‘도움이 된다’와 ‘보통이다’ 사이에 있다고 응답하였다. 본 연구에는 몇가지 제한점이 존재하지만, 저널 쓰기 활동은 학생들이 수업에서 배운 내용을 상기시키고, 쓰기 습관의실수를 인식하는 데 도움을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 저널 쓰기가 영어 글쓰기 수업에 긍정적인효과의 가능성을 제시하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 따라서 향후 연구에서는 저널 작성 과제의 부담은 낮추고, 효율성은 높이는 방안이 마련되어야 할 것이다. 이와 함께 교수자의 치밀한 사전적 수업 계획과 명확한활동 제시 및 지속적 격려와 관심이 필요하다.
This research explored the characteristics and usefulness of journal writing in college English writing classes and also aimed to suggest educational implications. The two classes that participated in this study. A total of 120 journals during six weeks were submitted, and the characteristics of them were examined and analyzed. In addition, a survey was conducted to find out whether journal writing activities were useful in English writing class. As a result of journal writing analysis, the content of peer feedback was divided into five types, and the degree of how the students accepted them in their writing was also classified into five types. According to the survey, most students responded that journal writing activities were between ‘be helpful’ and ‘be normal’ in English writing class. Although there were some limitations in this study, it suggested the possibility of a positive effect of using journal writing in English writing class because it showed that journal writing reminded students what they learned in classes and made them recognize their mistakes in writing habits. Therefore, further research should come up with a plan to lower the burden of the journal writing assignment and to enhance its effectiveness.
