본 연구는 생성형 AI 기술의 고도화가 출판 편집 과정에 가져온 변화 양상을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 AI 시대 출판 편집의 구조적 재편 방향을 탐색하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 문헌 분석과 국내외 사례 분석을 결합하여 이미지·텍스트 기반 AI 도구의 활용 방식, 인간 편집자와의 협업 구조 변화, 저작권·윤리적 쟁점 등을 다각도로 검토하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 생성형 AI는 표지·삽화 제작, 시안 제안, 문장 교정 등 출판 편집의 여러 공정에서 반복적·기술적 작업을 자동화하며 실질적인 효율성을 크게 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 미드저니·달리·ClipDrop·Grammarly 등 주요 AI 도구는 시각·언어 기반 편집을 보조하는 핵심 기술로 자리 잡고 있으나, 학습 데이터의 적법성, 결과물의 저작물성, 스타일 모방 및 표절 문제 등 새로운 법적·윤리적 쟁점을 동반하고 있었다. 셋째, AI가 제시하는 시안은 완성물이 아니라 초안에 가까우며, 이에 따라 편집자의 역할은 결과물 판단자·문화적 해석자·품질 관리자 등 고차원의 기획·의사결정 중심으로 재정의되고 있었다.
This study examines how the advancement of generative AI technologies has transformed the processes of publishing editing and explores the structural reconfiguration of editorial work in the AI era. By combining literature review with analyses of domestic and international cases, this research investigates the use of image- and text-based AI tools, the evolving collaborative relationship between human editors and AI, and emerging copyright and ethical challenges. The findings reveal, first, that generative AI significantly enhances practical efficiency by automating repetitive and technical tasks across various editorial stages, including cover and illustration production, visual draft generation, and text correction. Second, major AI tools such as Midjourney, DALL·E, ClipDrop, and Grammarly have become essential assistants in visual and linguistic editing, while simultaneously raising new legal and ethical concerns regarding dataset legitimacy, authorship, and risks of stylistic imitation or plagiarism. Third, AI-generated drafts function not as finished products but as provisional outputs that require human interpretation, refinement, and contextualization. Consequently, the role of the editor is being redefined toward higher-level tasks such as evaluative decision-making, cultural interpretation, and quality management.
