질적 교육 연구(Qualitative Bildungsforschung)의 정립 과정과 그 교육학적 시사점 고찰: 생애사 연구 방법을 활용한 Bildung 개념의 경험적 연구 가능성을 중심으로

The Establishment of Qualitative Educational Research(Qualitative Bildungsforschung) and Its Pedagogical Implications

본 연구는 독일 교육학 분야 내에서 질적 교육 연구가 등장 및 정립하게 된 과정을 검토하면서 질적 교육 연구가 국내 교육학 분야에 제공할 수 있는 시사점을 도출하고, 더 나아가 Bildung 개념이 생애사 연구 방법을 활용해 이론적으로 뿐만 아니라 경험적으로도 연구될 수 있는 가능성을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 삼고 있다. 이를 위해, 먼저 1980년대 후반 독일 교육학 내에서 Bildung 개념과 일상 간의 밀접한 연관성을 검토한 연구들을 살펴보았다. 이후 1990년대에서 2000년대 사이에 출판된 독일의 교육학자 마로츠키의 연구들을 검토하면서, 질적 교육 연구가 등장 및 정립하게 된 과정을 자세하게 살펴보았다. 또한 2000년대에 출판되었던 또 다른 독일의 교육학자 콜러의 연구들을 검토하면서, 질적 교육 연구의 학문적 가능성과 정당성이 더욱 체계적으로 정립하게 된 과정에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 2012년에 출판된 편저 『질적 교육 연구와 Bildung 이론』에 담겨 있는 주요 연구들을 검토하면서, 질적 교육 연구의 이론적, 방법론적 토대뿐만 아니라 실제 연구 사례들도 살펴보며, 질적 교육 연구의 구체적인 목표와 방향성도 제시하였다. 이처럼 본 연구는 질적 교육 연구를 중심으로 독일 교육학 내 Bildung 개념의 최근 연구 동향을 살펴보면서, 국내 교육학 분야 내에서 Bildung 개념에 대한 학문적 관심을 새롭게 촉구할 뿐만 아니라, Bildung 개념의 경험적 연구의 가능성을 토대로 이론 연구와 경험 연구 간의 엄격한 구분을 극복할 수 있는 학문적 단서도 제시하고자 하였다.

This study aims to examine the emergence and establishment of Qualitative Educational Research(Qualitative Bildungsforschung) within the field of German pedagogy, derive implications for its application in Korean educational studies, and further explore the potential for the concept of Bildung to be studied both theoretically and empirically using life history research methods. To this end, it first reviews studies from the late 1980s in German pedagogy that explored the close connection between the concept of Bildung and everyday life. Subsequently, it will examine the works of German pedagogue Marotzki published between the 1990s and 2000s, detailing the process by which Qualitative Educational Research emerged and became established. Furthermore, by examining the research of another German pedagogue Koller, published in the 2000s, we will also look at the process how the academic potential and legitimacy of Qualitative Educational Research became more systematically established. Finally, by examining key studies contained in the 2012 edited volume Qualitative Educational Research and Bildung Theory, this study will explore not only the theoretical and methodological foundations of Qualitative Educational Research but also actual research cases, presenting concrete goals and directions for Qualitative Educational Research. Thus, this study examines recent research trends on the concept of Bildung within German pedagogy, centered on Qualitative Educational Research. It not only renews academic interest in the concept of Bildung within the domestic field of education but also offers scholarly clues for overcoming the strict distinction between theoretical and empirical research, based on the potential for empirical studies of the Bildung concept.
