A philological Study of Gu Ja-woon’s Poems

본고의 목적은 1950~1960년대 주목받는 시인 중 한 사람이었던 구자운의 시 작품에 관한 문헌학적 쟁점들을 정리하고 작품 연보를 새롭게 작성하는 것이다. 본고에서 정리한 문헌학적 쟁점들은 크게 다섯 가지이다. 첫째, 가장 최근에 작성된 김정희의 논문에서 제시한 시 작품 107편에 20편을 추가하여 총 127편의 목록을 제시하였다. 구자운의 시는 『청자수병』에 32편이 수록되었으며, 그의 사후에 발간된 시집 『벌거숭이 바다』에 38편과 『구자운 시전집』에 20편이 추가되었다. 여기에 정형근의 연보에 포함되었지만 『구자운 시전집』에 수록되지 못한 작품 8편, 김정희 발굴작 9편, 염철 발굴작 20편 등을 합치면 구자운이 발표한 시는 총 127편이 된다. 둘째, 제목 표기에 오류가 있는 작품 8편을 찾아서 이를 수정하였다. 셋째, 출전에 오류가 있는 작품 10편을 찾아서 이를 바로잡거나 대안을 제시하였다. 넷째, 「분토에서」와 같이 내용 일부가 결락된 작품이 있다는 사실을 밝혔다. 다섯째, <고도이품>, <이향이수>, <목애시편>, 「이대로 가다가는－M씨에게」, 「오늘의 성자－함께 늙는 M씨에게」 등과 같이 작품 편수를 산정하는 데 혼란을 드러낸 작품들과 관련하여 산정 기준을 명확하게 밝혔다.

This paper explores philological issues related to the poetry of Gu Ja-woon, a major Korean poet of the 1950s and 1960s. The study revises the chronology of his works and corrects textual errors found in previous research, addressing five major issues. First, the study identifies a total of 127 poems by Gu Ja-woon, expanding on the 107 listed in Kim Jeong-hee’s earlier work. These include 32 poems from Blue Porcelain Used as a Water Bottle, 38 from the posthumous collection Naked Sea, and 20 from the Complete Collection of Gu Ja-woon’s Poetry. Additional poems — eight from Jeong Hyeong-geun’s chronology, nine uncovered by Kim Jeong-hui, and twenty by Yeom Cheol — are also included. Second, eight title errors are corrected through comparison with reliable sources. Third, ten misattributed works are revised with proposed corrections. Fourth, missing content in poems such as From the Dirt of the Grave is identified, raising questions about textual completeness. Fifth, the study clarifies counting criteria for poems with overlapping or thematic structures — such as the Ancient Porcelain series, Two Scents, Mok-ae Poems, and works dedicated to “Mr. M” — to address inconsistencies in poem enumeration. By resolving these issues, the paper provides a clearer and more accurate understanding of Gu Ja-woon’s poetic legacy and establishes a firmer philological basis for future studies in modern Korean poetry.
