본 논문은 AI 윤리에 존재하는 이분법적, 초월적 존재론적 전제를 비판적으로 검토한다. 신유물론의 틀을, 객체 지향 존재론과 연결하여, 이분법을 넘어서게 하는 새로운 가치, 윤리적 유대, 주체성의 형식을 탐구한다. 이러한 관점에서는 인간과 비인간의 모든 존재는 상호적 관계 속에 놓인 물질적 존재로 이해되며, 이에 따라 우리 자신과 AI 윤리를 위한 관계적 패러다임을 모색하는 연구 방향이 제시된다. 이 신유물론적 관점은 가즈오 이시구로의 『클라라와 태양』을 다르게 해석하게 한다. 즉, 태양의 초월적 위치와 야적장에 버려진 클라라를 디스토피아적으로 독해하는 선행 연구들과 달리, 클라라가 물질적 얽힘에서 행위자로 지속된다는 점을 논증한다. 본 논문은 또한 배제된 존재들의 잠재성을 전면화하며, 주변화된 존재들이 얽힌 관계망 속 사건으로 재등장하여 새로운 윤리적 의무와 책임을 부과할 수 있음을 탐구한다. 소설 속 클라라의 돌봄은, 요청과 응답 가운데 일어나는 돌봄의 관계가 그녀를 능동적 행위자로 위치시키는 과정을 예증하고 새로운 윤리적 책임이 요구됨을 보여준다. 나아가 비인간 존재를 포괄하는 생태적 사회에 필수적인 가치와 윤리는 미리 주어지는 것이 아니라, 관계의 얽힘 속에서 지속적 ‘되기’를 통해 끊임없이 생산됨을 시사한다. 따라서 본 논문은 AI 윤리의 정립을 우리의 미래를 형성하기 위한 능동적 ‘선택과 실천’의 과정으로 규정한다. 관계적 윤리 개념이 현재의 이분법적 사고를 넘어설 때 AI 시대의 지속가능한 발전을 위한 새로운 통찰이 주어질 수 있다고 본다.

This paper critically examines the binary and transcendent ontological assumptions underpinning current debates in AI ethics. Using a new materialist framework, in dialogue with object-oriented ontology, this paper explores new values, ethical bonds, and forms of subjectivity that transcend binary dichotomies. From this perspective, human and nonhuman entities are material beings in mutual relation, thus guiding inquiry toward a relational ethical paradigm for AI. This new materialist lens yields a distinct reading of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun: rather than a transcendent Sun and a merely dystopian disposal posited in prior accounts, Klara persists as a vital nonhuman agent emergent from material entanglements. This paper foregrounds the potentiality of excluded beings, showing how marginalized entities can re-emerge as events within entangled relational networks and thereby impose new ethical obligations and responsibilities. Klara’s caregiving illustrates how relations of care arising from requests and responses position her as a technological mediator. Values and ethics indispensable to an ecological society inclusive of nonhuman entities are not pre-given but continually produced through material entanglements and ongoing becoming. Accordingly, this paper argues that establishing AI ethics is a process of active choosing and acting that shapes our shared futures. By moving beyond binary thinking, a relational conception of ethics offers new insight for sustainable development in the age of AI.
