목적: 이 연구는 대인관계능력 향상을 위하여 초등학교 국어 교육에서 칭찬하기 지도 내용과 개선 방법을 모색하는 것이다. 방법: 이 연구를 수행하기 위하여 대인관계능력에서 칭찬하기의 의의를 탐색하고, 초등학교 저학년 국어 교육에서 칭찬하기 지도 내용을 고찰하였다. 그리고 세종시 초등학교 2학년 3개 반을 대상으로 칭찬에 대한 반응을 조사하고 분석하였다. 결과: 대인관계능력 향상을 위하여 칭찬하기는 초등학교 2학년 국어 교과서 내용으로 조언하기와 함께 제시되어 있었으며, 칭찬 반응하기에 대한 내용은 없었다. 초등학교 2학년의 칭찬 반응을 조사한 결과, 복합 전략으로 감사하기와 되칭찬하기가 가장 많이 나왔으며, 겸손의 표현으로 부정과 격려하기를 사용하고 있었다. 학생들은 칭찬을 했을 때 상대방이 반응으로 되칭찬하기를 했을 때 더 기분이 좋다고 응답하였다. 결론: 대인관계능력을 향상시키기 위한 칭찬하기 지도를 개선하기 위하여 칭찬하기와 칭찬 반응을 같이 지도, 적절한 대화 예시를 사용, 칭찬 반응을 지도할 때 감사하기와 되칭찬하기를 활용, 칭찬하기를 독립된 학습 주제로 구성 등을 제시하였다.
Purpose: This study aimed to explore the content and improvement of compliment instruction in elementary school Korean language education to enhance interpersonal competence. Methods: To conduct this study, we explored the significance of compliment in interpersonal competence and reviewed the content of compliment instruction in Korean language education for lower grades in elementary schools. Furthermore, we surveyed and analyzed responses to compliment in three second-grade classes at an elementary school in Sejong City. Results: To improve interpersonal competence, giving compliment was included in second-grade Korean language textbooks, along with giving advice. A survey of second-grade students’ responses to compliment revealed that gratitude and return compliment were the most common responses, with negation and encouragement being used as expressions of humility. Students reported feeling happier when the recipient responded with return compliment. Conclusion: To improve compliment instruction to enhance interpersonal competence, we suggested teaching compliment and response to compliment together, using appropriate convert- sational examples, utilizing gratitude and response to compliment when teaching response to compliment, and constructing compliment as a standalone learning topic.
