Exploring ‘Agency’ Through the Transformation of the Lyric Subject

목적: 본 연구는 교육 담론에서 중요한 위상을 지니나 모호하게 사용되는 ‘에이전시(agency)’ 개념을 서정 장르의 주체 변화와 정동의 양상을 통해 관계적 관점에서 재구성하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법: 교육적 에이전시 개념의 전개와 그 한계를 검토하고, 캐런 바라드의 행위적 실재론과 정동을 중심으로 한 서정의 주체 논의를 연계하여 재개념화하였다. 이를 토대로 동시대 시 작품을 분석하여, 탈주체적 정동과 비인간 존재와의 감응 속 형성되는 서정적 주체의 양상을 고찰하였다. 결과: 서정적 주체는 개인 내면의 감정을 표출하는 자율적 자아를 넘어, 정동적 얽힘 속에서 출현하는 존재로 나타났다. 이는 에이전시를 개인의 속성·능력을 넘어 관계 속에서 분산·생성적으로 작용하는 것으로 이해할 필요성을 시사한다. 결론: 본 연구는 서정적 주체의 변화를 통해 에이전시의 의미를 인간 존재 양식의 차원에서 재고찰하였다. 정동적 장 속 형성되는 서정적 주체의 양상은 세계의 미결정성 속에서 관계적으로 출현하는 에이전시의 이해를 확장하며, 타자와의 감응과 공명 속에서 지속적으로 존재를 갱신해 나가는 관계적·참여적 역량 중심의 교육적 방향성을 제시한다.

Purpose: This study aims to reconstruct the concept of agency, which occupies a central yet ambiguously defined position in educational discourse, from a relational and affective perspective. Focusing on transformations of the lyric subject and modes of affect in the lyric genre, the study reconsiders how agency should be understood beyond individual autonomy. Methods: The study reviews the development and limitations of agency as discussed in educational discourse and reconceptualizes it by linking Karen Barad’s agential realism with affect-centered discussions of the lyric subject. Based on this theoretical framework, contemporary poems are analyzed to examine how lyric subjectivity is formed through de-subjectifying affect and affective engagement with nonhuman entities. Results: The analysis shows that the lyric subject moves beyond an autonomous self that expresses inner emotions and instead emerges through affective entanglements. This finding suggests the need to understand agency not as an individual attribute or capacity, but as something that operates in a distributed and generative manner within relationships. Conclusion: By examining changes in the lyric subject, this study reconsiders the meaning of agency at the level of human modes of being. The affective formation of lyric subjectivity expands the understanding of agency as relationally emerging within conditions of indeterminacy and offers an educational perspective that emphasizes responsiveness and participatory capacity as central to agency.
