기초 문해력 향상을 위한 문학 기반 문장 교육의 방향

Directions for Literature-Based Sentence Instruction to Enhance Foundational Literacy

목적: 본고는 기초 문해력 교육을 위해 문장 교육이 필요하며, 이것이 문학을 기반으로 이루어질 수 있다고 보고, 그 방향을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 삼는다. 방법: 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 기초 문해력 교육을 위한 문학 기반 문장 교육의 가능성과 실행되었을 때의 기대 효과를 탐색하였다. 그리고 문장 교육과 관련된 선행 연구를 분석하여 문장 교육의 내용을 추출하고, 교육과정에서 문장 교육의 내용을 분석하여 시사점을 도출하였다. 이상의 내용을 바탕으로 문학 기반 문장 교육을 위한 교수·학습의 원리를 제시하였다. 결과: 문학 기반 문장 교육은 가능하며 고유의 장점을 지닌다. 그리고 문장 교육에서는 정확성 만큼이나 유창성에 대한 고려가 필요하다. 이상의 내용을 바탕으로 문학 기반 문장 교육을 위한 교수·학습의 원리를 문학 교육과 문장 교육의 내용을 고려한 학습 목표 설정하기, 문학 작품의 문장으로 읽기 유창성 기르기, 문학 작품에 대해 대화 나누며 문장 배우기, 작품 속 문장 활용하여 다른 문장으로 표현하기로 제시하였다. 결론: 이 논문은 기초 문해력 교육을 위한 문학 기반 문장 교육의 가능성과 기대 효과를 탐색하고 구체적인 교수·학습의 원리를 제안하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the direction of literature-based sentence instruction, asserting its necessity for foundational literacy education. Methods: Based on a theoretical review, the potential and expected effects of literature-based sentence instruction for foundational literacy were explored. Furthermore, instructional contents were identified through an analysis of prior research on sentence instruction, and implications were drawn from an examination of the Korean Language Arts Curriculum. Based on these analyses, a pedagogical process for literature-based sentence instruction was proposed. Results: The findings demonstrate that literature-based sentence instruction is not only feasible but also offers unique educational advantages, such as providing a bridge to independent writing. A critical finding is that sentence instruction must prioritize fluency as much as accuracy to reduce the cognitive load of developing writers. Based on these analyses, four pedagogical principles are proposed: (1) setting learning objectives that account for both literary and sentence instruction contents, (2) fostering reading fluency using sentences from literary works, (3) learning sentence mechanics through dialogue about literary works, and (4) expressing ideas in new sentences by utilizing and manipulating sentences found in the works. Conclusion: This research is significant in that it validates the potential and expected effects of literature-based sentence instruction for foundational literacy and provides concrete instructional principles.
