Culturally loaded words carry rich regional and ethnic characteristics, making their English translation crucial to the global dissemination of Chinese culture. Liu Zhenyun’s Someone To Talk To, set in Yanjin County, vividly portrays rural customs and local life, providing abundant linguistic and cultural materials for translation studies. This paper takes Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Li-chun Lin’s English version as the object of study and, drawing on Eco-translatology, adopts a case analysis approach to examine the translators’ adaptive choices within the three-dimensional transformation framework. By analyzing representative examples, the study explores the strengths and limitations of the translation strategies applied to culturally loaded words. The findings aim to offer new perspectives and insights into the English translation of culture-specific expressions and contribute to the broader discussion on the cross-cultural communication of Chinese literature.
