｢드라이 샐베이지즈｣ 제4-5부에 대한 양자적 접근

A Quantum Approach to ‘The Dry Salvages’ IV-V

본고에서는 4차 산업혁명 시대에 주목받는 학제간 통합의 필요성을 다루며, 인문학과 과학의 융합이라는 관점에서 T. S. 엘리엇의 심오한 명상시「드라이 샐베이지즈」제4-5부에 양자이론의 원리를 적용해 보고자 한다. 특히 사고하는 존재인 인간이 필연적으로 사물에 대한 인식론적 접근을 취한다는 점에서 양자이론의 원리를 적용한다. 적극적으로 원용하는 양자이론의 여러 측면에는 파동함수, 양자얽힘, 특이성, 특별상대, 일반상대, 게슈탈트이론, 원형이론, 양자 도약이 포함된다. 위 시를 양자이론으로 조명한 결과 엘리엇이 세상의 어느 철인보다 사물의 흐름과 이치를 거의 파악하고 있다는 것이다. 따라서 이 시는 선사가 침식을 잊고 독한 명상 후에 내뱉는 의식 저편의 기억인 것 같다. 시인은 바다와 강, 인연의 연기, 정점에 대해 텍스트 너머의 차원을 바라본다. 그리고 신성에 대한 인간의 양자 도약, 사물과 인간의 동일성, 자연의 전체론과 결정론을 보여준다. 이처럼 21세기 양자 시대를 질주하는 작금의 시대 상황에서, 불과 몇십 년 전에 우리와 함께 지상에 머물렀던 당대의 시인 엘리엇은 여전히 신성을 포기하지 않았다.

This paper addresses the emerging necessity for interdisciplinary integration in the current fourth industrial age by attempting to apply the principles of quantum theory to T. S. Eliot’s profound meditative poem, “The Dry Salvages” IV-V from the perspective of the fusion of humanities and sciences. In this paper, I attempt to apply the principles of quantum theory while acknowledging that humans, as thinking beings, inevitably engage in epistemological approaches to objects. Ignoring the well-known adage in physics that claiming to understand quantum theory is, in fact, indicative of ignorance, I have forcefully drawn upon several aspects of quantum theory. These include wave function, quantum entanglement, singularities, special relativity, general relativity, and quantum jump. Additionally, I applied concepts from gestalt theory and archetypal theory to this work. The attempt to observe things microscopically, as implied by quantum theory, is detached from human everyday life. Accordingly, it contrasts with Newtonian theory, which observes macroscopic objects. Therefore, while acknowledging that the certainty of Newtonian theory is currently applicable, it cannot be denied that the simultaneous application of the uncertainty of quantum theory has significantly enhanced human cultural life while giving rise to the risk of competition between humans and machines. When analyzing human life at an atomic level, we witness the collapse of metaphysical sandcastles, prompting a renewed awareness of the inauthentic reality.
