(Background and Purpose) This study extends the literary concept of narrative structure as a core design principle in metaverse brand spaces, examining how different narrative types influence emotional immersion and brand attitude. While previous research has primarily focused on visual identity or technological interactivity, this study highlights the cognitive and emotional mechanisms through which the structure of a story mediates emotional experience. (Methods) Through theoretical exploration based on the narrative theories of Propp, Todorov, and Barthes, five narrative types—linear, circular, branched, metaphoric, and hybrid—were identified. Using these categories, five representative brand cases—Louis Vuitton, Coca-Cola, Gentle Monster, VANS, and BLACKPINK × ZEPETO—were analyzed and evaluated through qualitative content analysis (QCA) focusing on spatial composition, user participation, and emotional expression. (Results) The findings revealed that narrative structures can be classified into two immersion pathways: cognitive immersion (narrative transportation) and emotional immersion (presence). Linear narratives encouraged emotional identification with brand history and values, while circular narratives fostered continuous engagement through a cycle of participation, reward, and re-engagement. Metaphoric and hybrid narratives strengthened interpretive emotional engagement through symbolic and aesthetic spatial language, and branched narratives promoted personalized identity formation through user-driven choice and interaction. (Conclusion) Metaverse brand spaces operate not merely as virtual experiences but as structured emotional narratives. By presenting a causal framework linking narrative type → narrative transportation → presence → emotional immersion → brand attitude, this study contributes to establishing a theoretical foundation for future research in emotional design and spatial storytelling within the metaverse context.
