회귀 서사의 트라우마 작업화와 정체성 재구성 - 〈절대회귀〉 주인공의 회귀 전 경험을 중심으로

Working Through Trauma and Identity Reconstruction in Regression Narratives: Focusing on the Protagonist’s Pre-Regression Experience in Absolute Regression

본 연구는 웹소설 회귀 서사에 내재된 트라우마 극복의 서사적 메커니즘을 규명하기 위해 〈절대회귀〉를 분석 대상으로 삼고, 외상적 사건, 반복 강박, 지연된 재현, 작업화라는 정신분석적 틀을 적용하여 고찰하였다. 분석 결과, 본 작품의 회귀 서사는 단순한 시간 되돌리기나 성공 재현의 장치에 그치지 않고, 주인공의 내적 변화와 심리적 치유 과정을 단계적으로 구조화하는 복합적 메커니즘으로 기능함을 확인하였다. 주인공은 첫 삶에서 가족과 공동체 상실이라는 외상을 경험하고, 회귀 이후에도 반복 강박과 지연된 재현을 통해 트라우마를 재경험한다. 그러나 이러한 반복은 관계와 무력의 재구성을 통해 점차 치유적 의미를 획득하며, 특히 아버지와의 관계 회복은 트라우마 재의미화의 핵심 축으로 작동한다. 더 나아가 미래 지식의 한계를 인식하는 과정에서 작업화가 이루어지고, 주인공은 현재를 주도하는 주체로 정체성을 재구성한다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 회귀 서사가 트라우마의 직면과 치유, 관계 회복을 통해 독자에게 심리적 공감과 위안을 제공할 수 있음을 밝힌다.

This study investigates the narrative mechanisms of trauma resolution embedded in regression narratives of Korean web fiction through an analysis of Absolute Regression. Drawing on key psychoanalytic concepts—traumatic events, repetition compulsion, deferred representation, and working-through—the study demonstrates that regression functions not merely as a device for temporal reversal or success reenactment, but as a structured process of psychological transformation. The protagonist’s initial experience of trauma, marked by the loss of family and community, is repeatedly reactivated after regression through compulsive repetition and deferred representation. Over time, however, this repetition acquires a reparative function through the reconstruction of agency and interpersonal relationships, particularly the restoration of the father–child relationship, which enables the re-signification of trauma. Furthermore, the recognition of the limitations of future knowledge facilitates working-through and the reconstitution of the protagonist’s identity as an active subject in the present. This study argues that regression narratives possess significant potential to provide psychological resonance and consolation for contemporary readers.
