뉴미디어 아트 교육을 통한 감각 확장과 창의성 발현 방안: Marshall McLuhan의 매체 미학을 중심으로

Expanding Senses and Manifesting Creativity through New Media Art Education: Focusing on Marshall McLuhan’s Media Aesthetics

본 연구는 뉴미디어 아트를 감각의 확장을 통해 학습자의 인식 구조와 사고 과정을 변화시키는 매체 환경으로 재해석하고 미술교육에서의 새로운 방향성과 실천 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 디지털 기술의 발달로 예술 경험이 뉴미디어 아트 중심의 상호작용 형태로 진화하였음에도 불구하고, 초등 미술교육 현장에서는 관련 인프라 및 교수·학습 방법의 부족으로 인해 뉴미디어 아트의 교육적 접근이 충분히 이루어지지 못하고 있다. 이러한 문제의식에 기반하여 Marshall McLuhan의 이론을 토대로 매체 자체가 지각 구조를 재편하는 핵심 기제임을 밝히고, 감각 확장과 창의성 발현의 가능성을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 구현하기 위해 ‘Feel & Experience – Think & Wonder – Reflect & Create’ 단계의 뉴미디어 아트 프로젝트를 설계하였으며 매체별 메시지 변화 탐색, 감각의 복합적 체험, 창의적 미디어 생산 활동을 제안했다. 본 연구는 뉴미디어 아트가 감각 확장 및 창의적 사고를 유도하는 교육적 기제임을 이론적으로 규명하고, 감각 통합 중심의 교수·학습 원리와 단계별 실행 방안의 타당성을 검토한 설계형 연구이다. 이로써 향후 미술교육 현장에서 본 프로젝트가 뉴미디어 아트 교육을 통한 창의성 함양을 위한 실천적 가이드라인으로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

This study examines New Media Art as a transformative framework of perception and proposes practical strategies for its integration into art education. Although technological advancements have shifted artistic experiences toward interactive and participatory forms, elementary art education continues to face limitations due to insufficient infrastructure and pedagogical approaches. Grounded in the theories of Marshall McLuhan, this research conceptualizes media as a mechanism that reshapes perceptual structures and promotes sensory expansion and creative thinking. To operationalize this perspective, the study proposes a project model titled ‘Feel & Experience – Think & Wonder – Reflect & Create’, which emphasizes exploration of media messages, multisensory engagement, and creative media production. By articulating the educational value of New Media Art, this paper offers practical guidelines for fostering creative thinking through sensory integration in contemporary art classrooms.
