자폐스펙트럼장애(ASD) 시각예술의 신경심리학·신경미학적 고찰

Neuropsychological and Neuroaesthetic Perspectives on Visual Arts in Autism Spectrum Disorder

본 연구는 자폐스펙트럼장애(ASD) 아동의 시각예술 특성을 신경심리학 및 신경미학 관점에서 이론적으로 고찰하였다. ASD의 신경심리학적 특성, 신경미학 이론, 시각예술 관련 문헌을 포괄적으로 검토한 결과, ASD의 시각예술 특성은 세부 묘사의 정교함, 반복적 패턴의 빈번한 사용, 체계적 색채 배열, 독자적 표현 양식의 네 가지로 수렴되었다. 이는 국소 처리 우세성, 약한 중앙 통합, 향상된 지각 기능 등의 신경심리학적 특성과 일관된 연관성을 보였으며, 신경미학적으로는 색채의 물리적 속성에 대한 민감성, 패턴과 대칭에 대한 선호, 규칙적 구조에 대한 몰두 등 독특한 미적 경험 양식이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 ASD를 결핍이 아닌 신경다양성으로 재개념화하는 이론적 근거를 제시하며, 강점 기반 중재 및 교육 지원 전략 개발에 실천적 함의를 제공한다. 향후 실증적 검증과 구체적 프로그램 개발 연구가 필요하다.

This study theoretically examined the visual art characteristics of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through a comprehensive review of neuropsychological, neuroaesthetic, and visual arts literature. Four key characteristics were identified: elaborateness of detail, repetitive patterns, systematic color arrangement, and distinctive expressive styles, which are consistently linked to local processing dominance, weak central coherence, and enhanced perceptual functioning. Unique aesthetic modalities were confirmed, including sensitivity to color properties, preference for patterns and symmetry, and absorption in regular structures. These findings provide a theoretical basis for reconceptualizing ASD as neurodiversity rather than a deficit, with practical implications for strength-based interventions and educational support strategies. Further empirical validation and concrete program development are required.
