｢케이팝 데몬 헌터스｣속 전통문화의 디아스포라적 재해석과 글로벌 공명

Diasporic Reinterpretation of Traditional Culture and Global Resonance in K-Pop Demon Hunters

본 논문은 넷플릭스 애니메이션 ｢케이팝 데몬 헌터스｣에 나타난 한국 전통문화의 재현 방식을 분석하고, 이러한 표현이 디아스포라적 문화 조건 속에서 어떠한 의미를 형성하는지를 고찰한다. 글로벌 미디어 환경에서 전통문화는 단순한 역사적 재현의 대상이 아니라 현대 대중문화 형식과 결합하며 재구성되는 문화 자원으로 작동하고 있다. 이러한 변화는 전통문화가 특정 지역의 고유한 문화로 고정되는 것이 아니라 문화 이동과 접촉 속에서 새로운 의미를 획득하는 과정으로 이해될 필요가 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 디아스포라, 문화 혼종성, 문화 번역 개념을 분석 틀로 설정하고, 작품 속 전통 신앙, 전통 복식, 전통 회화상징, 캐릭터 디자인, 전통 건축 공간 등의 재현 방식을 중심으로 서사와 시청각 표현을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 작품속 전통문화는 외형적 형식은 현대 대중문화의 언어로 변환되지만 그 심층적 상징 구조는 새로운 형식 속에서도 지속되는 ‘변환과 지속의 이중적 메커니즘’을 통해 재구성됨을 확인하였다. 나아가 이러한 재현 방식은 디아스포라적 문화 조건과 긴밀하게 연결된다. 복수의 문화적 환경 속에서 형성된 창작자의 디아스포라적 시선은 전통문화를 고정된 유산이 아닌 재해석 가능한 자원으로 접근하게 하며, 글로벌 수용자 역시 디지털 미디어와 문화 교류를 통해 디아스포라적 문화 조건을 공유하고 있기에 이러한 재구성 방식을 직관적으로 이해하고 공감할 수 있다. 창작자와 수용자가 공유하는 이 디아스포라적 감각이 전통문화 표현의 글로벌 공명을 가능하게 한 핵심조건으로 작용한다. 본 연구는 전통문화 재현을 사실성 중심의 재현 문제로 한정하지 않고, 문화 이동과 정체성 형성의 관점에서 분석함으로써 전통문화 재현 연구의 분석 시야를 창작 조건과 수용 과정으로 확장하는 데 기여하고자 한다.

This study examines the representation of Korean traditional culture in the Netflix animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters and analyzes how these representations form cultural meanings within diasporic conditions. In the contemporary global media environment, traditional culture no longer functions merely as an object of historical reproduction but operates as a cultural resource actively reconstructed through its engagement with modern popular culture. Employing diaspora, cultural hybridity, and cultural translation as its analytical framework, this study focuses on the representation of traditional beliefs, costume, symbolic imagery from traditional painting, character design, and architectural space within the film. The analysis reveals a consistent pattern: while the external forms of traditional culture are translated into the language of contemporary popular culture, their deep symbolic structures persist within new forms. This study conceptualizes this pattern as the ‘dual mechanism of transformation and continuity.’ Furthermore, this mechanism is closely linked to diasporic cultural conditions. The diasporic perspective of the creators, shaped by experience across multiple cultural environments, enables them to approach traditional culture as a reinterpretable resource rather than a fixed heritage. At the same time, global audiences who share diasporic cultural conditions through digital media and cross-cultural exchange are able to intuitively understand and resonate with this mode of reconstruction. The diasporic sensibility shared by both creators and audiences constitutes the core condition that enables the global resonance of traditional cultural expressions. By approaching the representation of traditional culture from the perspective of cultural mobility and identity formation rather than historical authenticity, this study contributes to expanding the analytical horizon of traditional culture representation research to encompass both the conditions of creation and the processes of reception.
